A Brain Tumor Diagnosis Can Redirect One’s Life

Have you ever noticed how some people complain incessantly about the small things in life? These same people generally don’t even try to change, correct, or adapt to what they are complaining about!  Be honest – do you really enjoy hearing the same litany of grievances over and over again – almost like the story is playing on a continuous loop?

Imagine being a mom to a 2 and a 3 year old, waking up one morning paralyzed, and then hearing the words “you have a brain tumor” applied to yourself!  This exact scenario was Nancy McLoughlin’s reality.  I think we can all agree paralysis and a brain tumor are legitimately things to complain about! Fortunately, through a combination of good luck – the tumor was not malignant – and great kindness – her surgeon cancelled his family vacation to oversee her operation – she is alive and fully functioning today.

However, this experience caused her to immediately, and irrevocably, realign her priorities and to focus on what she totally appreciated in life.  In other words “no more sweating the small stuff”. Besides the obvious of friends and family, Nancy vowed to always have fresh flowers and to never take the ability to move for granted again.

Her treasuring of movement led to a commitment of self-care and also earning teaching certificates in Pilates, Yoga, and the MELT Method (therapeutic movement to help relieve pain developed by Sue Hitzmann).  Nancy is now a dedicated teacher helping others with minor movement issues and/or musculoskeletal pain take their lives back.  She is a poster child and cheerleader for taking small steps every day to reclaim one’s life and appreciate every of moment of every day.
